Ram 1500 vs Toyota Tundra: Engine Specs & Towing Capability

With their reputation for power and performance, it’s no surprise that the Ram 1500 and the Toyota Tundra each sport strong engines. The Ram 1500 actually has a few available options. The two we’re looking at complement one another well, with one focused on horsepower, and another geared towards torque. The first is a 5.7-liter V8 that puts out 395 horsepower and generates 410 lb-ft of torque.

The second is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 that can generate 240 horsepower and an impressive 420 lb-ft of torque. Both of these options feature an excess of strength, as evidenced by the Ram 1500 also flexing an available towing capacity of 10,640 lbs. The Toyota Tundra has two engine options as well. Unfortunately, it’s most powerful option only gets 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. It also only has a maximum towing capacity of 10,100 pounds.

Infotainment & Technology

Both the 2018 Ram 1500 and the 2018 Toyota Tundra have cabins featuring helpful, appealing technology that makes every job more enjoyable.

The most prominent entertainment feature found in the Ram 1500 is the Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ capabilities. With these two integration systems in place, you can link your smartphone with your truck, giving you the ability to access navigation, music, apps and more directly on the available 8.4-inch touchscreen display.

You won’t even have to use your hands to access most of these features, as an optional Integrated Voice Command with Bluetooth® gives you the ability to use simple, everyday speech to do things like play music.

Comparatively, the Tundra has an available Entune™ Premium Audio System with Integrated Navigation and App Suite. This system allows you to access navigation, as well as some select apps. However, the Tundra doesn’t have Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto™ which limits your ability to fully sync your smartphone with the truck.

Exterior Styling & Customization

The Toyota Tundra and Ram 1500 are capable of handling the most rugged, gritty jobs, and they’ve also been crafted to be convenient and stylish, too.

The Ram 1500 has a number of exciting exterior features that give you the opportunity to customize the truck to your liking. For example, you can go the black-out route by opting for the black exterior mirrors, black front and rear bumper, and the available black tubular side steps.

As for convenience, the available Rambox® Cargo Management System is extremely appealing. This feature is a lit, secure, and durable storage system that is incorporated into the side rails of your truck bed. Other helpful features include the wheel-to-wheel side steps, and the wide range of cab options, from 5-ft 7 inches all the way up to an 8-ft bed length. ram 1500

The Toyota Tundra is no stranger to style, as evidenced by features like LED fog lights, a gray honeycomb-style grille, and the chrome TUNDRA badge.

While the Tundra has a few available bed lengths to choose from, it doesn’t have a storage system as convenient as the Rambox® found in the Ram 1500.
